Together we’ve looked at the humor of the MCU, and read some of Marvel’s darker comics; now we will study the tonal dissonance between Marvel Studio’s MCU, and Fox Studio’s X-Men franchise, and learn why the two franchises have such different personalities.

Blacklights and Floorboards; the Humor of the MCU

Ah, Marvel. Owner of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and over 135,000 other characters. For the purposes of this article, I will focus only on the movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU. Due to movie rights to various characters being sold off in the late 90’s, Marvel’s own production studio can produce movies of only certain characters. The movies currently in the MCU are Iron Man (2008), Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Marvel’s The Avengers (2012), Iron Man 3 (2013), Thor: The Dark World (2013), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), and plans exist for further movies through the early twenties.

Today we will examine the humor of the MCU, and why its movies never fail to make us laugh.
